The Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County Demands Governor Newsom End the Statewide Lock Down
The Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County recently adopted the below resolution to demand Governor Gavin Newsom end the statewide lock down immediately.
The Governor has ordered individuals in California to quarantine themselves in their homes, ordered schools closed, and arbitrarily deemed millions of workers and businesses as “non-essential.”
The RPSLOC believes the elected county government officials responsible to voters, and who are consulting with healthcare professionals, businesses and workers, are best equipped to decide what health protocols and precautions are appropriate for their particular regional circumstances, rather than a top-down, one-size-fits-all approach.

The Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County
Demands Governor Newsom End the Statewide Lock Down
WHEREAS Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered individuals in California to quarantine themselves in their homes, ordered schools closed, and arbitrarily deemed millions of workers and businesses as “non-essential”;
WHEREAS the original objective of “bending the curve” so as to avoid an overwhelming of our hospital systems has been achieved and there is now plenty of hospital capacity for anyone who may need it;
WHEREAS Californians have substantially complied with restrictions so severe they could not possibly have been contemplated just a few months ago;
WHEREAS considering how much more we know about COVID-19 today versus in the beginning of this crisis, and Californians’ increased awareness about it, the virus no longer poses such a grave threat to the people of California that it necessitates a statewide lock down ;
WHEREAS the lock down is causing untold Californians of all ages serious mental harm and tragic increases in suicides, domestic abuse, and substance abuse, with the serious and likely risk of life-long trauma;
WHEREAS our entire supply chain of products in general and food, in particular is now at risk of serious disruption which will cause shortages and increased prices, placing additional burdens on every Californian;
WHEREAS students due to graduate high school and college are being deprived of well-earned recognition of their achievements at a critical point in their lives when such ceremonies could clearly be responsibly performed;
WHEREAS K-12 students are objectively less susceptible to COVID-19 and considering that social interaction, education, and sporting activities are a critical component of healthy mental and physical development for young people;
WHEREAS California’s beaches are a cherished treasure that contributes to the mental and physical well-being of millions of Californians daily;
WHEREAS the lock down is creating tremendous financial damage to untold individuals, families, and businesses so as to not only risk wiping out many of them but also severely impacting state revenues, as well as other government entities’ revenues;
WHEREAS in a diverse state as ours, elected county government officials responsible to the voters, consulting with healthcare professionals, businesses and workers, are best equipped to decide what health protocols and precautions are appropriate for their particular regional circumstances, rather than a top-down, one-size-fits-all approach;
WHEREAS a balanced, regional approach, places authority and accountability where it belongs; in the hands of those truly on the front lines of the effects of battling COVID-19 such as local elected officials, healthcare professionals, first responders, small businesses, and families;
WHEREAS the Fifth Amendment right states citizens may not be “deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law” and courts recognize some restrictions only by the least restrictive means – not arbitrary and unreasonable edicts which effectively constitute house arrest without such due process; and
WHEREAS the lock down order challenges our natural, God-given rights to freedom, secured by the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California, blatantly and clearly inviting not only legal challenges but civil disobedience; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Republican Party of San Luis ObispoCounty demands Governor Newsom respect the inalienable rights of Californians and end the statewide lock down order effective immediately.
