OPPOSES H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446

Two Federal Gun Control Bills That Would Shred the Second Amendment

WHEREAS H.R. 8 and H.R.1446, if signed into law, would shred the Second Amendment re the peoples’ right to keep and bear arms;

WHEREAS H.R. 8 Requires background checks for EVERY “transfer” (NOT just sale) of a firearm, thereby criminalizing private transfers of firearms that take place even inside your own home with limited “exception;

WHEREAS H.R. 8 if enforced to the letter could put millions of gun owners in prison by outlawing the transfer of any firearm without a proper Brady Check;

WHEREAS the term “transfer” is nowhere defined, but it’s clear from the bill that handing your gun to a neighbor for as little as even one second could count as a “transfer”;

WHEREAS under H.R. 8, since every gun transfer will go through a dealer, every gun owner will have a ATF Form 4473, setting the stage for a national gun registry;

WHEREAS H.R. 1446 would allow the newly required Brady Check to be dragged out for very lengthy delays for the sale of a firearm;

WHEREAS at a time when Americans are getting “canceled” for their political beliefs, the last thing needed is a highly politicized bureaucracy with the power to establish a federal registry and run background checks to determine who has a right to own a firearm; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Republican Party of San Luis Obispo County strongly opposes H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 and urges Representative Salud Carbajal, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla, to vote NO on these two bills that would shred the Second Amendment re the peoples; right to keep and bear arms.
